I’ve taken on more freelance work and I’m happy. I’m writing and I’m being paid to do it.
Success! Right?
So why did it feel off?
Until recently, I’ve been able to find the time and energy to create content during my two-year-old’s nap time. I could consistently rely on getting two hours a day, which isn’t bad. But I took on a project that had a tight deadline, needed me to commit to more than two hours a day and I had to figure out how to fit in progress conference calls.
All of this sent me searching for a solution to feeling trapped by the nap.
I didn’t have to search for long. I had been following The Workaround, a brilliant business idea and co-location workspace created by Amanda Munday on Twitter. I even signed up for her e-newsletter and watched as she painted the space and pulled it all together with beautiful furniture. Now, with this freelance project coming online, I could finally become a member.
It was my answer to needing more time to write because brilliantly I can bring my two-year-old with me and put her in a warm and welcoming childcare program right in the same building! Brilliant, right?
I find it amazing, but not surprising, that it was a woman, an entrepreneur, a mother-of-two who managed to pull this off – the first co-lo space with childcare of its kind in Toronto.
I’m proud to be a member and proud to support a space where so many of us can work flexible hours with our children happily nearby.
